What should I say to overly angry friend?

Okay, I have a childhood friend that moved far away. We have talked infrequently over the past few years, and I'll admit, she's the one to usually call. I just moved (2 weeks ago) and hadn't called her to let her know yet. She called my disconnected number. I got a really, really nasty e-mail from her today saying I was a total B#$%! We have been friends a long time and I felt bad that I hadn't called, so I wrote her back and apologized. Now I'm still a little pissed about how she handled it, but I am going to call her. How should I handle it? What should I say?
