European Union - Good or Bad?

Hallo from Germany! I was just hoping to inquire as to what your opinions of the European Union are. I feel that it is leading the nations of Europe to the death of their sovereignty. It speaks volumes of the injustice when the governing factions refuse us referendums on matters such as the Lisbon Treaty.
