How do I use the semicolon correctly in this sentence?

The part after the semicolon should be able to be a complete sentence on its own, but is so closely related to the first part, you use a semicolon instead of a period. Your second portion does not constitute a sentence, and therefore is incorrect usage of a semicolon. I'm not sure of the point you are trying to make with the second part, or I would suggest something.
